Depending on if the server is dedicated to Oracle or if you'll use it as a
file/print server too. We run oracle on a 900 Mhz Dell, 2 gig ram and raid 0
+1 (mirrored drives) just fine. The database is as an electronic medical
records system with about 50 users attached to it. It runs fine, but we
intend to max the ram out to 4 gigs. Not sure you need the second CPU, try
more ram first.

Oracle will run slower with WIN2K on it. The OS adds too much overhead to
system resources (RAM and CPU).
As for Linux, you'll get about the same performance as Novell. Novell's
strong point is it uses very little CPU time, basically for NDS and any
NLM's you load like UPS software, backup software etc.
Be aware that this is the last version to be supported on Novell. 9 will
not run on Novell. Also be sure to run the latest windows client32 on your
workstations.
Let me know what you deside on, there are few Oracle users on Novell these
days.
thanks for your answers.
Good to hear that it´s faster than Windows. I won´t move the
customer away from Novell cause the file system is very easy to
manage and there are a lot of files (some hundred thousand).
The customer now have 512 MB and we´re planing to add 2 GB first.
Also we want to install RAID 0+1, for now we have a single disk,
mirrored with the RAID controller to Raid level 1 with 1 spare
drive. To add performance, we will change this to
Do you know if there is a developer version for a download ? We
did not find one in Oracle TechNet.
Thanks.

No more. I悲 tried to find one already ...
