Does anyone have information regarding the enterprise manager tool.
We find reference to this in most of the Oracle books, etc. But don't
really understand how to install/use it. Any information regarding this
would be greatly appreciated. It seems that this is intended to run as
a server on some type of windows machines and connect and control the
main Oracle database.
Part of the reason we are seeking this is an ongoing effort to
"clean" up a pre-existing database of deleted data. Any opinions,
instructions, advice regarding this would also be appreciated.

Thanks,

John Mitchell

From distant memory, it appears when you do the Oracle client install on a
workstation

It actually comes on seperate CDs from the Client, but other than a management
tool, I can't really say what it does.
I would deploy it with ZEN for our Oracle folks, but that is about it.

http://technet.oracle.com/ has some Oracle forums that may be better able to
answer this question, since it is not NetWare specific.

Well, I could have sworn it was a seperate product, but I guess I was
mistaken.
Maybe they merged them or now give it away??
I checked out OEM at Oracle's products page, and it just jumps me to the
Oracle 9i page, which does not even reference OEM??

I do recall, however, that we only gave OEM to a limited number of users
10-20, while all users got the client.

This is, I assume, using the Oracle CDs/setup that comes with 5.1 though

No,

This is actually just the stuff used by our Oracle Group.
Primarily for Oracle on HPs, but also some NT instances and NetWare.

OEM could actually talk to all of them.

I just deployed the software and managed the licensing.

They gave me stacks of Oracle Products :> Oracle Client(s), Developer,
Discover, Designer, OEM, and a few other custom Oracle apps with other misc
extras.

Yes I have gotten all of the OEM products running on my two Oracle
servers that are run on NW5.1, it is a little tricky but I have all of
the bugs out of it now. It does make the database chores a lot eaiser
to deal with, before I had to do everything through SQL, which Iam a
little slow on. You have to have an NT or Win2000 Pro for your client
PC, and you have to install all of the OEM components of off the Client
CD or personal Oracle Database CD 8.1.7 or 8.1.6. Then you have to
start the service on your server which is DBSNMP81, then start your
service on your NT client PC. If this service does not start you will
need to run the Configuration Assistant to create a Repository, then
rerun your NT client service and the service should start and then you
can start your Console and other OEM tools.
This should get you started
