I know that I'm a little behind the times here as I tell you that I just
became aware that Oracle has ended all "error correction support for all
Oracle products on Novell Netware, effective 31 December 2001". [ from
Computing, Oct 19, 2000 ]

- Can someone point me to any official Novell communications on this matter?

- Also, what real problems have you Oracle/Novell administrators have
experienced since Oracle's divorce from Novell?

- Does the fact that, since the 12-31-01 cut-off date, there are over a
dozen postings on this forum concerning installation of Oracle 8i and 8.1 on
Netware 5.1 and 6 systems mean that one ought to have confidence in the
reliability of those configuration?

- Did Oracle make a Netware version of Oracle 9 (or is it 9i)?

Thank you for your responses!

Hi, I can answer just a few :

None! (we don't use the technical support from Oracle)

It works fine, no problem.

My only "concern" is that the NetWare Support Packs aren't tested anymore
with Oracle. So, if we get problem with compatibility between Oracle and
NW51SPX or NW6SPX, we'll be alone and probably (99.99%) Novell or Oracle
will not provide a fix for it...

> - Did Oracle make a Netware version of Oracle 9 (or is it 9i)?

No, and it'll not release one.

We are running O8.0.4.2.7 on a NW51SP4, everything running fine.

But we're waiting for the PostgreSQL port (for NW), and probably (99.99%)
we'll change to PostgreSQL.

On *nix, PostgreSQL scale very well, it rocks! And I'm almost sure (99.99%)
that in NW it'll be better!

It can manage large databases, with many concurrent connections. It, also,
have almost all the features like a commercial RDBMS, like transactions,
stored-procedures, etc.

So, if Oracle did it (kicked NetWare), then we'll kick Oracle. ;)

Regards,
Eduardo
