I just upgraded from sp5 to sp6.
I chose not to upgrade Java from 1.1.7b
Now I am getting this error:

Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.110(x) for JDK 1
.1.x
Copyright (C) 1996-99 Symantec Corporation

java: Class com.novell.application.ServletGateway.Server exited with
status 1

This server has bordermanager, groupwise, and ifolder

any ideas?

yeah, reinstall and let java upgrade (make sure not to overwrite your
previous SP backup, and you don't have to replace the drivers again).
Before reapplying the SP, open a CMD prompt and at the root of sys:
type:

FLAG *.* N /S

If I let Java upgrade, it will break other components.

The issues documentation in section 4.14 says that the Novell Servlet
Gateway and Web Search Server Administration are incompatible with JVM
1.22 or higher.
It also says that Websphere 3.5.x does not run on JVM 1.3.1, but we
aren't running Websphere (section 4.7).

Instead of reinstalling the whole service pack, couldn't I just
install the latest Java?
If I upgrade Java, will there be any problems downgrading to the
version that is currently on the server if I need to?
