Hello,

We have a very old server that we want to move to a new server using the
DSmaint procedure.

We also want the filesystem on the new server to use NSS. The old server
is NWFS. Is this a problem when it comes to restoring the the data and
trustees, and are there any othe issues with this?

I couldn't find anything in the knowledgebase. Anyone here tried the above
procedure?

Kind regards,

Thijs Wientjes

The DSMAINT precedure is rather cumbersome and also has it's problems
in certain cases. Maybe you should use the Migration Wizard to make the
move instead. The Migration Wizard will handle same version hardware
upgrades. It will also handle copying from TFS to NSS and it can also
poentially upgrade your NDS during the migration if you want to do that
as well.
Apart from that, if you have an SMS compliant backup system, the move
from TFS to NSS should not make you loose trustees. However there is a
pitfall with compressed files. If your files are backed up compressed,
then you will not be able to restore them to NSS.

Hm.

Wa are using arcserve for our backup. But the backup is compressed. bit of
an issue here.

I'l look into the migration wizard.
