I am getting an abbend on boot and have attached the abbend.log file. All
this is new to me but I was directed to this forum from another. Any help
would be appreciated.

Thanks, Roger

I tried running dsrepair > advanced menu > repair ds database > global

I get 8 errors that say run repair timestamps. when I type repair
timestamps from the console, I get unrecognized command. If I run time
synchronization from the advanced menu I get "ERROR -634 "could not find an

There are a bunch of TIDs addressing this in KB

http://support.novell.com/search/kb_index.jsp

You will have to work through them, and maybe more than one will be needed.

Just leave the time alone if it is remotely close (within a couple hours)
it will correct itself.

10071422 refers to a file nwlib2.exe and sp5.
I did download sp5 but did not know how to install it and questioned whether
I should before I resolved this trouble

Roger,

<load config> at the console.

Pick up the config.txt file it drops into Sys:\system and paste it into the
next response after you delete the serial number please.

I typed config on the server and have typed below what it shows on the
screen. From the WS, I went to the system directory on the server and
searched for the config.txt file but did not find one.

OK.

This time let's try typing <load config> without the greater than and less
than symbols.

That is what I did. I ran config without the <> symbols and what I sent you
is what comes up on the screen. I searched for the config.txt and did not
find it. I also rem'd the line that "Server ID F3139D7.

Just to make sure I am not adding to the problem, I typed in load config
just as you suggested. I normally don't have to type the load command, but
rather just the command itself so that is what I have been doing. When I
type the "load config" rather than the info I type into my email and sent
you, I get the following:

SERVER-5.00-1948: Unable to find load file CONFIG

This is starting to make a little better sense.

Config.nlm is a file that ought to be there. Go to the Novell site and d/l
fconfig5.exe. Unpack it into Sys:\system.

Then at the console:
<load config>

It will drop a config.txt file into Sys:\system. Paste that into your next
post and remember to delete your serial number out of the config.txt file.

I am suspicious of a botched SP install now as well as the position of netdb
in the Autoexec.ncf

I will be out on a service call for a few hours and maybe the rest of the
day. Any other SysOp who picks up this thread will be able to read the
config and move you to the next step if I don't get back.

rbarr8

I downloaded fconfig5.exe and from the WS, I copied it into the Sys:\system.
I then typed load config and I got:

Loading module CONFIG.NLM
Netware Server Configuration Reader
Version 3.10e January 9,2004
(C) Copyright Novel, Inc. 1993-2004

This is NATIVE Netware!

Generating TXT configuration report, please wait ......
Writing module list ....
Writing LAN driver list ......
Writing boot disk info ......
ROBERT_MARINO_SRV <1>:

That appears to lock up the server as I can no longer log in from the WS or
type anything at the server console.

Roger,

Your server is in bad shape. When you rebooted the server could you find
the config.txt file in Sys:\system?

rbarr8

unread,
Jan 24, 2004, 7:23:55 PM1/24/04
to
No, I could not find the config.txt file, however I am not sure I even see
the SYS:\system directory. From the WS if I look at the F drive, I only
see:
Robert on 'Robert_marino_srv\Sys'(F:)
one autoback.swp file and a windows subdirectory with no other files. In
order to find a system directory I have to go to a Z (I think a mapped
drive) drive and that appears to be the SYS: volume as it does have a system
directory. It seems, whenever I run the config5.exe file, it locks my
server up. I do see the config.nlm in the system directory now where it was
not before I ran config5.exe but still no config.txt. I will append the
login script below for you to see what might be happening and why.

Your mapping is definitely hosed. Don't worry about that now.

Go to Z: and log in as admin. See if you can find config.txt without
running another config. If you can post what you have here please. If not
then have another shot at <load config> and see what that produces.

No, you did:

He told you to do:

LOAD CONFIG

which is totally different.
