I am having some backup issues with Backup Exec 8.5 running on Netware
5.1. I am backing up to a HP Ultrium 215. I am receiving this error
when trying to backup...
.

Vendor: HP
Product: ULTRIUM 1-SCSI
ID: ??
Firmware: N26D
Function: Write filemark(6)
Error: Timeout(1)
Sense Data:
00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00

Anybody have any ideas? I updated to the latest firmware for the drive
but that didn't seem to help any.

Thanks,

Chris

That usually indicates a tape fault, but could also be the tape drive.
Is this a new drive? New BE installation?

Also, your message indicates NW5.1, but this is a NW4x forum. Please
confirm the version of NetWare.

I used new tapes and new cleaning tapes still receive the same error.
Nothing had changed before the error happened and yes we are running
5.1 sorry I didn't realize I was posting to the wrong group.

I would start by diagnosing the tape drive (or call their tech
support).

No prob. Just needed to be sure. So far the issue isn't NetWare
version specific.

I talked to HP yesterday and he said it was an issue with my controller being to slow.  I personally think it's the drive but he is unwilling to replace it until I purchase a faster controller and try it.

Thanks for your help I'll see if the faster controller helps on Monday if not I will have the drive replaced.

For that drive you want an LVD/SE controller than can do at least
40MB/s.
