My questions are when i install netware again, do i use a 'temp' name for
the nds when installing or give it the original name thats on the tape ?
And if it gets a temp name, do i have to remove nds before restoring it
from tape or just restore over it ?
I've never had to do this before so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
But you said this is a single server, so you do need to restore NDS
from tape. Use the exact same server name, tree name, IPX internal
network number, etc., when you reinstall NetWare. Everything needs to
match in order for the restore from tape to work.
Hopefully you had a backup copy of drive C: -- it would make the
recovery process so much easier. If not, once you get this server back
up and running, burn a copy of C: to CD in case this ever happens
again. They you need only format the new hard drive, copy the CD to
it, create your NW vols, install your tape software and start your
restore, skipping the NW reinstall altogether.
Also, you wouldn't remove NDS prior to restoring. If you remove NDS
you will not be able to restore. There has to be a directory to make
the restore to, kind of like you have to format a disk before you can
copy files to it.
