How do you kill a hung service? I've tried going to a second console
screen (CTRL-ALT-ESC) but that just brings me to a screen that asks me if
I want to down the server.

If it won't unload, you generally have to reboot the server.

alt-ctrl-shift-esc and spawn a new command line what you're looking for?

Depends on if you mean hung as in non-responsive, or hung as in a
recoverable abend. If the module is just not responding, try unloading
it. If you have an abend you will need to reboot.

First, I don't recall that 4.x supports a second command prompt, unless
that was something added in SP9. I just don't remember...

That aside, if the emergency console screen ([ctrl]+[alt]+[esc])
doesn't give you a particular option that you otherwise would expect to
be there it's because the system isn't in a state to give it to you.

Since you say you don't have an abend condition, then I would say it's
because 4.x doesn't offer the second command prompt, just the ability
to dismount volumes and shutdown.

Crtl-Alt-Esc was what I was looking for and 4.11 does support it. The
server was not abended, the console screen was just locked up upon loading
the FTP admin.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I've been gone for the holidays.

Then whatever is causing the lock-up is also preventing the second
command prompt option from being available. Apparently, FTP console is
triggering it, if not actually causing it.

Maybe somebody else has some ideas there. I'm too far removed from it
now. Don't have any 4.x boxes available for testing anymore.
