We recently purchased a HP Proliant ML350 G3 to upgrade our 4.2 server.
After purchasing we realized Netware 4.2 is not a supported or tested OS.
Below is server configuration:
* HP Proliant ML350 G3,
* 3 X 36.4 GB Ultra SCSI Hard Disk,
* Onboard Ultra3 SCSI Adapter,
* HP 532 RAID Array Controller
However, we have completed the first step of manual installing Netware
4.2 but now unable to proceed. Because niether onboard SCSI driver is
available nor the RAID driver is available for Netware 4.2 so that
atleast 1 Hard Disk can be installed to accessed by Novell OS.
Even, we are unable to get any information regarding "How to install
Netware 4.x Ultra3 SCSI / 532 RAID" on this "HP Proliant ML350 G3" server.
Is there any solution ?
Thanks

I did a NetWare4.11 install (at lot harder than NetWare4.2) the other
day on a ML530 with the same RAID controller. It worked without problems.

(No Email Support, Thanks !)
I would like to make sure that 4.x is using .HAM or .DSK file for
driver, not .NLM file? However, I have searched the net (including
novell.com for CPQRAID.NLM but couln't get it. Pls let me know where I
can find this file.
Meanwhile, I tried to load CPQRAID.HAM file for Netware 5 included in
SmartStart 6.4, but it doesn't work.
Other point: there is a document in "SmartStart 6.4 CD" about "Proliant
Support Pack (PSP) for Novell Netware, where a file is described as
"Compaq NWPA Array Driver Component for Netware 4.2 and Netware 5.1"
During installation of this PSP (as documented, CPQDPLOY.NLM program is
required to load this PSP)
While installing this PSP, I got an error "BTRIEVE can not create
file..." Is CPQDPLOY.NLM really hepl to install Netware 4.2 drivers ? I
am not sure, because there is no file with extention .HAM or .DSK with
this PSP program which required by Netware 4.2
Any idea about this ?
A) 4.x using .HAM OR .DSK not .NLM, and
B) What is Proliant Support Pack and if it is useful, why it is giving
error associated with BTRIEVE.
Many Thanks

Do not use CPQDPLOY.NLM, rename the PSP you downloaded to .ZIP
Extract the contents from your workstation using any unzip program then
use the CPQRAID.HAM from there (my mistake on my previous post).
On first day we were taken this as a Wrong Server for our existing
Novell Netware 4.2 Operating System. And infact, it is not documented
anyware about "How To Install Netware 4.2 on Proliant ML350 G3" with
a) Onboard Dual Channel Ultra3 SCSI,
b) Smart Array 532 Controller,
c) 36.4 GB Ultra3 SCSI Hard Disk
d) Onboard Gigabit Ethernet Controller.
As HP Proliant ML350 G3 Server is not supporting Novell 4.x we were
trying to install 4.2 manually, but couldn't cross the stage of driver
installation. Infact, Netware 5.0 drivers on HP Smart Start 6.4 was
also not recognized by 4.2 and giving NWPA.NLM COULD NOT BE LOADED
error. The service pack 6 with Netware 4.2 also couldn't help.
For a last try, we have downloaded Service Pack 9 for Netware 4.11/4.2
which really help to install 4.2 on HP Proliant ML350 G3.
This is how we have made our Proliant ML350 purchase fruitful:
1) I started the manual installation of 4.2 till the point of loading
NIC & SCSI Drivers.
2) Returned to Server Prompt, DOWN & EXIT to DOS Command Prompt.
3) Now, the server was ready with C:\NWSERVER directory with initial 4.2
files.
4) Downloaded "NetWare 4.11/4.2 Support Pack 9" from Novell site
http://support.novell.com/servlet/filedownload/uns/pub/nw4sp9.exe/
(file size = 78493 K 13 November 2000,)
5) Extracted all files to local hard disk drive.
nw4sp.exe extracted to NW4SP9 folder.
6) Copied following files in to a floppy disk and finally to Server's
C:\NWSERVER\ directory.
(from the extracted folder NW4SP9, path NW4SP9\DRIVERS\ODI331\SYSTEM\ )
NWPAL.NLM 96KB
NWPAIO.NLM 36KB
NWPAMS.NLM 75KB
(Almost 79MB Service Pack 9 is downloaded for only three files !!)
7) For driver files, I used Netware 5 Drivers from HP Smart Start 6.4 CD,
(path = \COMPAQ\DRIVERS\NW5 ). Copied these files to C:\NW5 folder.
8) Started the Server again, and I loaded NWPA.NLM using
"load C:\NWSERVER\nwpa"
9) To proceed with installation, loaded "load install"
10) Selected "Driver Option" and for HDD, SCSI, Smart Array 532 and
onboard NIC Drivers, pointed to C:\NW5 using "unlisted driver" option.
For HDD, SCSI Controller, and RAID:
C:\NW5\CPQRAID.HAM
C:\NW5\ADPT160.HAM
C:\NW5\CPQSHD.CDM
For Onboard Gigabit Ethernet NIC:
C:\NW5\Q57.LAN
11) After successfull installation of SCSI interface as well as Smart
Array 532, the SYS volume mounted.
12) Further installation completed as normal.
I hope if you have purchased HP Proliant ML350 G3 server without knowing
that documented Novell supported on this server is Netware 5 and above,
this will help you.
We have wasted almost 5 days x 4 manpower for getting use of this HP
Proliant ML350 G3 to accept Netware 4.2 Operating System. Infact, we
have tried several options including "Proliant Support Pack" (PSP) found
on HP Smart Start 6.4 CD delivered with this server.
We have found this PSP rather confusing, however helped to think about
NWPA program, which we have extracted from Netware 4.11/4.2
Service Pack 9.

Now, that you mention it - the initial install for NetWare4.2 is about
the same as NetWare4.11. The only difference is that NetWare4.2 automatically
patches itself to SP6 after copying all files. However, during the DISK
and NIC prompts, they are both identical (old version of NWPA.NLM).
Sounds like quite a process. Please do not think of it as a waste of
time, though. I just read your steps and learned from your hard work.
How can it be a waste if your efforts taught others?? I'd say you gave
us a gift - you should feel good about it. Though I do see the other
side of it also, 5 days is a long time.
Thanks for your posts.
