I'm in the process of updating a 4.11 & 4.2SB operation to 6.x boxes and
through parts of it I'm jamming users onto some of the old boxes for a
short time (actually, I'm already in that phase) and I'm running into
license issues because of it.

Is there any way to transfer licences out from one server to another with
little to no blood loss? (I can't for the life of me remember....)

For example, I've got a 4.11 box with 50 licenses that is only getting a
dozen or so users on it max.. - I could really use ripping 25 of those out
of that box and moving them onto another 4.11 box (in another tree) where
50 licenses just doesn't quite cut it..

Any/all help greatly appreciated!

It all depends on the configuration of the licenses themselves.

If you have two 25s then you're good to go, just uninstall one and install
it where you want it.

If it's one fifty, you are stuck.

Yes. If you have the license disks and if that 50 is really 25+25

Norm, you mentioned 4.11/4.2 - note you can't swap licenses between these
versions -- aside from that, the other folks have you covered.

Yes, I found that one out some time ago actually... :)

Ok, that's what I thought, I'll need the original license disks. (Vendor
must have walked with them, unable to locate...)

As always, many thanks for your time guys!

I'm in the same process as Norm. Exactly how to uninstall one the 2
licenses? I did a search in Novell web site and can't find the procedures.
Thanks.

Keith, first, make sure you have the license diskettes in hand and that
they are in good shape as you will need them to install licenses on the
other server after you remove licenses from the first server.

In 4x, the license uninstall process is fairly straightforward.

At the console,

Load Install
License Option
F8 delete last license
This will list the last license installed and the user count associated
with it.
