help setting up a novell 3.12 server

I need some help with my novell 3.12 server setup. after i install the
installation floopies the server will come up where i can down the server
and get back to the dos prompt. but while the server is up i cannot make
users from the server or get around with a dir command anymore what is going
on. can some one please help. Note i did not install the client yet. do i
have to do this from the client side and how?
