Greetings,

My company installed Netware 3.12 and 2 x SCSI 9G HD at the beginning.
Last month, I added another HD(18G) and mounted as a separate volume, and I
upgraded the memory to 128Mb.
The Server becomes very unstable, and I need to restore the older system
file to fallback and dismount the new volume.
My question is: does the Netware 3.12 has a limit to HD? and I need more
memory for large disk volume?

Any help would be appreciated.

p.s. config. as shown below

Hi

NetWare 3.12 is a stable product provided some requirements are met.

One of the major issues is the amount of ram to support the volume space
and IMO you're overloading the system.

I use a rule of thumb for memory that is:

16 meg of ram for the first gig of volume space
12 meb of ram for each additional gig of volume space thereafter.

With this rule of thumb you would need to have 384 MB or ram...
This, however, is using the default block size for the volume and the
memory required will be less if you use a larger block size, but with
the prices of ram nowadays it just as easy to use my rule of thumb.

Could you explain what you mean by "unstable"?

Not -- but with 128M of RAM, you are way too thin for memory to support 36G of
volume space.

Also, is the server patched current? Further, is the server autoregestering
existing 128M of memory?

Run config at the console, pick up the config.txt file it drops into
Sys:\system and paste it into the next post *after you delete the serial
number*.

Roger, it looks like your SCSI adapter is sharing an interrupt with your
second network card.

Also, your SYS volume is VERY thin on disk space -- you might need to resolve
this by trimming some files out of there now.

I note you are manually registering memory, with 312PTD in place, you should
be able to autoregister memory.

Also, assuming 312PTD is in place and NWPA drivers are set up, you ought to be
able to use the HAM drivers for the Adaptec.

Hi

I'd recommend that you

1.purge /all from the root of all volumes after you've deleted the log
files from your backup

2. apply the lswap procedure to see if you can remove the register memory
command

3. apply the strlt8a.exe update

4. apply the lib312d.exe update

5. move the adaptec controller to another IRQ
