Hello guys... It is my first time here. My network consist of Windows
server except a Novell 3.12 server which is been there way before my
time... just there, working. On Saturday we had a power outage and now one
of the hard drives is dead. This hard drive works together with an
identical hard drive as a mirror. If I brake the mirror, Could people work
again with the server... and if yes... Could you please tell me in simple
words how to brake the mirror?

Many thanks

PLease let me know soon, SERVER IS DOWN!

Luis,

The simplest way would be to open the box and remove the dead drive. If it
is set up properly it will then just come up on the live drive.

If you do not have a DOS partition on the mirrored drive then come back
here.

Before you do it that way though, it's always worth trying to boot to a
floppy and see if you can access C:\. If so, then go to c:\server.312 and
execute server and the box should come up.

Why do you say that its dead? Are you seeing a message about "mirrored
directory entries" or "mirrored FAT"? Those do NOIT mean the drive is
dead. You need to boot the server, then run the VREPAIR utility,
which should be in the same directory on the C: drive as SERVER.EXE.
If it runs and finds errors, let them be corrected. Then re-run the
utility, again and again, until no errors are found.

Actually, it will come up with lots of nasty messages about being
unable to find the drive.

As Dave indicated, a failed mirror drive will not 'kill' the server (unless
you are mirroring IDE drives -- bad to do).

Can you describe the hardware configuration you are working with?

Here is a note regarding the mirroring process in NetWare:

Q: If a mirrored drive is replaced by a new drive, what would be the steps to
mirror the new drive?

1) Use the LOAD INSTALL.NLM at the server.
2) Then Undo the mirroring and remove the failed drive.
3) Then down the server and replace the failed drive with a drive of
the same size.

>> If a mirrored volume is dismounted and removed, what would be the steps to re-mirror
the volume again? <<

1) Replace the failed drive
2) Start Netware
3) Load install
4) Partition the new disk
5) Mirror the existing partition.

As you bring it back up, it will remirror itself.
