Hello,

We have a Netware 3.2 server with one mirrored 18GB SYS vol. I would
like to add an additional 18GB to that volume and was wondering if
anyone could point me in the right direction for a procedure. I did
this procedure years ago, and I'll be darned if I can remember what it
is :(

We purchased a couple of identical 18GB drives to add. The server has
plenty of memory - 1GB to be exact - so it should be all set. As I
remember, the procedure is roughly like this:

1) Install the new drive.
2) Run INSTALL and go into VOLUME options and add the new drives into
the SYS volume. The system should see and recognise the space after
that.

After that, I can't remember what else (if anything) to do.

Any pointers? Thanks much in advance!

1) Install the new drive.
1a) Make sure the controller sees the new drives (taking care of termination
and SCSI ID issues).
2) Restart the server
3) Run Install, go into Disk Options, Modify Partitions, create the Novell
Partition for both new 18G drives.
4) Set up the mirroring for the two newly created partitions
5) Set up these two new drives to be mirrored
6) Go to Volume Options, press insert, it should detect the 18G available
volume space, press enter on the 18G, you will be prompted to make this
new volume name or include it as a new segment on an existing drive. In
your case, choose the latter.

That will pretty much be it.

But note, is there a compelling reason to not create these as a new volume? I
am not a fan of large SYS volumes, and if these were not mirrored, I'd REALLY
avoid spanning a volume (especially SYS) over multiple drives.

Hi

I recommend that you just install the new drive on a new controller and
create a new volume. If possible I'd duplex because that is a tremendous
amount of data to loose when one of the drives die. If any of the drives
die when you have spanned drives, ALL the data is lost..
