best regards,
P.K.
You do need to patch the Server.exe. Copy the version that they have
purchased on to the server, in the nwserver (or server.312) directory
you will find an EXE called Lswap.exe I cannot remember the syntax,
but if you run it with a /? it will tell you how to use it.
Then you are ready for the off.

If I understand your question correctly, then what you need to do is the
following:
1. Remove all traces of the pirated version since you have no way of
knowing what the devil is there for sure, and now that the client is legal
you don't want that compromised because of a file or files left from the
pirate version.
2. the 3.2 Enhancement pack is no longer available. You can download all
the patched for 3.12 (appended to end of this post). If you do so, you can
setup directories to correspond to the destination directories on the
server(s) for most of the patches and for the four or five that must install
you drop them into their own directories. With that done, you can update a
server in 15-20 minutes. If you burn it all to a CD you can do lots of
servers.
Lswap answers help inquiries. (Lswap /?).

which should provide >8G support for that new drive.
That's means SERVER.EXE is updated somehow. BTW, how can I uninstall the
Enhancement Pack ? I've not checked out it yet!

Regarding the LSWAP options:
The LSWAP.EXE (loader patch) applies updates to server.exe. There are at
least THREE areas where server.exe updates are needed:
1) Memory registration
2) Date handling (which also requires that LIB312D.EXE be in place)
3) Public symbol errors (which manifest when one tries to use current
specification disk and network card drivers).
Here is the procedure to use:
LSWAP EXE
============
The defaults used in the command lines are from Netware 4.1x handling so for
the typical 3.12 server update, if it does update automatically, you will
need to not only run it manually, but make sure that you use the correct path
setting.
Both LSWAP.EXE and LSWAP.NLM use the same command line options. First
option specifies the location to LOADER.EXE.
(DEFAULT:C:\NWSERVER\LOADER.EXE).
The second option specifies location to SERVER.EXE or MSERVER.EXE.
(DEFAULT: C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE).
So, it the typical scenario where you need to run this manually from the DOS
prompt in the C:\Server.312 directory, you need to do the following:
1) Make sure that both LSWAP.EXE and LOADER.EXE are in the Server.312
directory.
2) Then use the following command syntax:
LSWAP C:\SERVER.312\LOADER.EXE C:\SERVER.312\SERVER.EXE
3) When this is done, you should end up with a SERVER.EXE with a new date and
a copy of the old server.exe as SERVER.OLD with the old date.

Could you tell me which patches' Loader.exe and LSWAP.nlm should I used?
Can the 'config.txt' generated by config utility really help us to learn
more about which patches or Enhancement pack that I have installed?

Unfortunately your customer did this to themselves, and there will be some
pain in fixing it.
The 3.2 EP being pirated must also be removed.
Were it My system I would do a complete reinstall except for the data.
Should there be a problem in the future, any pirated software present
whatsoever could result in prosecution. Aside from the legalities, you just
don't know what you have, and as a result you might be inviting even worse
problems than prosecution if you use it.
If you install the patches on thhe list you're good to go.
The config is a very important tool for you. It will give you a reference
for future problem solving.
Lswap is a maybe thing. Sometimes the loader doesn't get properly updated
and sometimes it does. If you get memory problems where you can't recognize
all of what's in the box, or you get funky dates *then* run Lswap, otherwise
you are probebly OK.
I would watch ebay and the other auctions for a 3.2 EP they show up from
time to time.
If you do the following you'll be legal in regards to the 3.2 enhancement
pack:
Get into the install utility and remove the 3.2 enhancement pack and
then:
I make the following directories:
c:\patches\system\4\nls
c:\patches\system
c:\patches\login
c:\patches\public
c:\dosdrive\server.312
I download all the updates and expand them out, oldest to newest one at a
time. Them I move the updated files into the directory they belong in.
system, public, login etc.
the dosdrive will be on the C: drive where the server.312 directory is
and they'll need to be loaded when the server is down. When all the files
are moved, except for the updates that require a separate install you can
xcopy the files from the patches directory to the server sys vol.
i.e. xcopy c:\patches\*.* f:\ /v /s /e
and then you're off and running.

I would like to know if I really want to reinstall all the things back to
server, but retain the original server info, such as bindery info, user
info, etc, what files should I backup first? Until now, I only have a legal
copy of 3.12 NW on hand. In order to prevent NW 3.12 from getting errors
resulting from the problem of Y2K, what should I do is to reapply the
patches you mentioned previously back to the new server and update the
server.exe ?

However, Barry has previously said that the 3.2 EP can't be removed from the
server once installed. So is it possible to remove it from the server?
As far as I understand, what you meant in the post is that I uninstall the
3.2 EP first, then expands all the patches from
http://support.novell.com/filefinder/147/index.html in the order from Oldest
to newest one to the following directories in C: drive:
c:\patches\system\4\nls
c:\patches\login
c:\patches\public
c:\dosdirve\server.312
Afterwards, without down the server, xcopy all the files listed in the above
directory (except c:\dosdrive\server.312) through workstation to the
corresponding directory in SYS vol. Then, down the server, and use the files
in c:\dosdrive\server.312, such as loader.exe, Lswap.exe, etc. to update the
server.exe
However, I have tried to expand an 312PTd.exe and found that its directory
is totally different from what you have mentioned, such as
\312ptd\native\loader, \312ptd\native\other\auto, \312ptd\native\start,
etc., so what should I do for this patches?
Thanks Felton!

Removing the 3.2 enhancement pack should be able to be accomplished as I
described and installing the updates will make the installation legal.
and do the expansion on a WORKSTATION and not the server.
The update belongs in the patches\server.312 directory.
