Hello, it's me again.

My users' workstations are synchronizing with the Novell server at login.
As this server is not connected to the internet and has no way of
automatically synchronizing with an online source, I would like to either:

A. Disable the time sync option for Novell 3.12
B. Set up the Novell server to synchronize with our PDC NT Server (which
does connect online for accurate EST).

Anyone know the secret?

Thanks in advance,
Carl

Hi

First of all, the NW3.x server does not have timesync... unless you're
talking about the workstations synctime with the server.

and it's easy enough to sync the Nw server to the internet if you have
internet access for a workstation.

See TID 2908496 Keeping a Workstation from synchronizing time

There is a third party utility RDATE that could sync NW4.x servers with an
internet timesource, I assume it would work on NW 3.x also. No idea who
makes it.

I guess I need to set a few things straight.

1. There is no way that we wish to enable internet access from the Novell
server.
2. We are using the Windows 98 client for Netware, not Client32. For
reasons that I don't wish to get into, we cannot use Novell's Client32.

So, how do I prevent my workstations from timesyncing to the Novell 3.12
server under these conditions?

Please help,
Carl

I just added:
SET_TIME off
to my system login script. That seems to have done the trick. Thanks for
helping.

Do you have systime in the login script?

Hi

That set the time update from the server to the workstation. If you want to
set the server, you can find nsettime.exe from JRB Software
http://www.jrbsoftware.com

I think you'll need to find one of the older vesions though. nutil6a.zip
comes to mind...

That won't be necessary. The Novell server is little more than a file
server that holds non time critical information (if the server wanted to
insist that it was last year, that wouldn't have any impact for us). The
problem was that our workstations were synchronizing with the Novell server
when they are supposed to synchronize with one of our NT servers (all the NT
servers have software that synchronizes the time to an online source and the
NT login script has the NET TIME \\SERVER command in it).

So, I don't really care if the Novell server is the correct time at all.
Having all of my users start complaining that their desktop clocks were off
by as much as 20 minutes after logging on was.

Thanks again,
Carl
