Hi,

Just wondering if I can download smallbusiness 6,5 beta and install it
on a new server.
I want to know if the final product will differ much from the beta. I
have the uppgrade protection so
I will be entitled to small business 6,5 when it comes out.

Should I wait and install when the final product is launched or install
beta and can I that case install licenses afterwards?

Is there any other issues to concider if installing a beta?

Sincerely,

DB

Yes you can.

Probably a few differences -- for one, instead of SP1 for NW 6.5 and SP1
for client 32 4.90, it will include SP1a for each. If you are using
compression on the server NSS volumes, this is a significant difference.

I'd be inclined to wait to do this on a production server, though you
should be able to deploy the licenses later.

What sort of hardware here? Which components of SBS 6.5 do you plan to
deploy?

It愀 a HP ML 310 ATA server with 2x80Gb hardware-mirrored disks.
1Gb RAM

I plan to install the following items:
-Netstorage
-iFolder
-GWise

at the moment this would be all, later perhaps something else.

Currently I have my fileserver on an old server running 6.0 sp3 with
the above items installed. I mainly use iFolder and GW, both remotely
and locally. The reason I want to switch to new hardware when upgrading
is that I have made a few mistakes when installing GW and want to get a
clean install of everything.
I know I have to move the mailstore to the new server, but this
shouldn't be to big a problem.
I will then use iFolder to sync my files to the new server.

I have a separate 6.0 BM server with BM 3.7 sp2
and at the moment I don't see any reason to reinstall it with 6,5
system, if you don't see any complications ofcourse. I will perhaps
upgrade to 3.8, but not necesseraly.

Sincerley,

How is the IDE mirror handled? Which controller there -- make sure there
is driver support for it. (I much prefer SCSI drives in server environments
but I'm currently running a test SBS 6.5 configuration using a Promise RAID
0 (it's only a test folks) configuration with two 80G drives. I could just
as easily have configured the drives in a RAID 1 (ie mirrored) approach
which you are doing.

My test system (home brew) uses a Celeron 2GHz processor and 1G of RAM with
an Intel 10/100 NIC. I've installed a rather full set of applications on
the server including GroupWise, iFolder, iPrint, etc. Heck, since it is
mostly sitting quiet, I run the Seti.nlm on it so the CPU isn't bored <g>.

But for the rest you should be ok, my only concern would be the IDE
controller driver interaction. Also, make sure to NOT configure with
compression on (I think that is the default).

Integrated Dual Channel Ultra ATA/100 Adapter with Integrated ATA RAID
0, 1, & 1+ 0

OS Support....
Novell NetWare 5.1
Novell Netware 6
Novell NetWare Small Business Suite 6

Thats the info I can get out of the add.

Changed my disks to 40Gb as I later can mirror two more disks when I
need them (dual chanel ATA Raid)

Hope I didn't buy a server not suitable for NW 6.5!
I placed the order today!

Thanks for your thoughts

You might find that you need an updated Service Pack from Compaq/HP - the
7.10 version?? I think.

Thanks I noticed that myself.

Already downloaded.

Just waiting for the SBS6.5 to appear.

Thanks for your help.

Understood -- it is an exciting product.

Still waiting for the hardware, just wanted to know before I bought the
product if anyone had any thoughts, Thanks!

I'll do the installation when I have the SBS 6.5 (not beta!)

Right as from what I've heard, you can't 'in place' the released SBS 6.5
over the public beta SBS 6.5..

OK, Thanks for the info.

I'll wait for the actual upgrade.

Now I will have time to plan the process and hopefully make no/just a few
mistakes when I actually installing the new NSBS 6,5 on my new server.

No problem -- I was a bit surprised to learn this and figured to share the
information out.

Not only that, but you get to watch and learn from those who might deploy
and report ahead of you <smile>
