After installing Netware the system hangs for about 4 seconds and this goes
on and off. When I try to ping the machine from a workstation the pingtime
is various from 1ms to 13xx ms and sometimes even an timeout occurs.

Again i'm very new to Netware so .....every help i can get is welcome
because I haven't got a clou to where to start searching !!

The system is:

Motherboard: MSI
Processor: AMD Athlon 1800+
Memory: 1024 Mb
Videoboard: Diamond Viper II 32Mb
Harddisks: 2 x Maxtor 40 Gb IDE (prim master and slave)
CDrom: 32x Mitsumi
SCSIboard: Adaptec 2940
Tapedrive: HP SurestoreTape 5000
NIC: 3Com 3c905c TX M

Thx
Ferry

This is after a complete install? And just to check, is this SBS 6.0/6.01
or the public beta of SBS 6.5?

This part is fine

I get nervous with multiple IDE drives in other than a test environment --
there might be an issue with theIDE drivers here (I believe the MSI board
uses some variant of the Via chipset)

No problem

No problem (though a DAT-1 drive is small for 80G of drive space).

Not sure that this might be an issue -- I tend to go with Intel 82557/82558
cards myself.

Hi Barry,

This is still the nw6sp3ed copy that i've downloaded. With the same purpose
of aquiring some knowlege about Netware, thats why I use IDE disks and a
5Gig tapedrive, I don't have some SCSI disks or a big tapedrive lying around
:-( otherwise I would have used them offcourse.

Youre right about the MSI board it uses a VIA chipset. I've updated the
specs below about the board.

I will try with just one IDE disk maybe there's a difference ?

Thx again
Ferry

No problem -- for test/training purposes your configuration should be fine.

It might, also, there are updated IDE drivers and you might use them
instead:

Barry,

Looking at the "Health Monitor" with the Remote Manager it says that the CPU
Utilization is 100% !!! (BAD)
I figure that this isn't normal. How do I know whats the cause of this.

Could be a driver issue grabbing the cycles (such as the IDEATA driver
version). I can peg my 6x server by running the Seti.nlm on it.

One other way to check -- at the console:

Monitor -- then tab key
Kernel
Busiest Threads
