TID10071749 describes this error and how to resolve it.

However, this is a new SBS 6 server that we are just trying to get to
install. Never mind an existing volume.

We have changed all the hardware to be sure, including new CPU, board, RAM,
and harddrives, as well as cables, CDRom and floppy drive.

We have, during the beginning of the install, added the latest server.exe
file to the NWUPDATE directory on the C Drive.

We have formatted the whole drive and started from scratch.

An I/O error at block such and such has compromised pool integrity
next erro is:
The CDM driver deactivated device (Seagate harddrive) due to a device
failure
next error is:
Device deactivated by driver (seagate harddrive) due to a device failure.

After replacing all hardware and trying this out on various systems, are we
missing something here? What on earth could possibly be going wrong here?

We have read this error in the 6.0 server newsgroup as well, and their
solution is to create a Netware 6.0 SP1a CD, but that won't work with SBS,
will it?

Maybe you have some configuration/driver issue. E.g. the hardware you have is
incompatible with the drivers included with NW 6. An example where this could
occur would for example be using IDE hardisk on some workstation grade
computers which have IDE controllers poorly supported by NetWare.

Could you describe your hardware, especially the disk controller, disks and
drivers used ?

Sure,

Asus A7V133 board KT133A chipset
AMD Athlon T-bird 1.333
2 Seagate ATA-100 U6 series IDE drives

I have Netware 5.1 SBS running on this board, so that is why we thought
Netware 6 would run on it.

Alas, the VIA IDE controllers are those that create most problems with
NetWare. What might help is to load IDEATA.HAM with the /nodma option.
Alternately, if you know a certain IDEATA.HAM that works well with your
hardware, then you might use that one.
