We are in a netware 5.1 environment. But we also have a standalone
windows 2003 server as a web server.

I was told Netbios and windows network client should be disabled to
reduce network traffic.

When I disable netbios I cannot see any computers in my network place--
view workgroup computers.
And I wonder what else are affected, and what bad effect of disabling
above.

For the web server only two developers sometimes will access it.
What special configuration I should make for the two developers, shall I
disable above too?

Thanks for suggestions.

Seeing the computers under My Network Places is a function of NetBIOS.
If you need this capability, then go ahead and enable that. Some
software does rely on this capability, so whether or not you actually
need it depends on your particular environment.

But the MS client for MS networking does not need to be installed for
everybody for that webserver to function.

For the web developers, go ahead and enable NetBIOS. That will enable
them to browse to drive shares on the web server.
