Intel PRO/100 S Dual Port

We are evaluating various dual-port NICs to achieve fault tolerance (load
balancing is not important).

Does anyone have good/bad experience with Intel's PRO/100 S or Intel's
PRO/1000MT dual port adapters? Would anyone like to recommend an adapter
that they are successfully using in a clustered NW6SP3 environment?

Sorry to be a pain, but the problem with dual port adapters is that if the card
has a problem you loose them both...

Unless of course you have 2 dual cards each set for failover with the other
card...

I have clusters with a mixed PRO1000/PRO100 configuration (I don't remember
the exact card models) using IANS.LAN to declare the PRO100 adapters as
backup for the PRO1000 series. This works very well.

You raise a good point, but I am concerned about allowing an O/S to make the
final decisions during a failover. Am I correct to assume that a dual-port
card handles these sorts of decisions internally and transparently to
NetWare?

Sadly not, as Marcel mentions, the Intel IANS works well, as does the Compaq
rebadge of the same.

Again as Marcel says, with this system you do not have to use the same spec NICs
to make it all work.

I understand through the previous thread that NetWare will treat the dual
port adapter as two logical cards. How will NetWare address it/them if the
card is only in one physical slot? Could you give me an example of what the
LOAD and BIND statements for the Pro/100 should look like so I can make this
more clear?

It is still treated as one card. However you will get "artificial" slot
numbers. Typically something like n00 and n01 where n is the physical
slot number.
