Hi All,

What seems to be the concensus these days regard AUTO negotiation or FIXED
settings on 10/100 links for servers?

My belief is that servers / switches / routers etc should be set at a KNOWN
speed and duplex to avoid any possible conflicts.

No. Best is to set all devices on any cable segment to Auto negotiate. This
is an industry standard and if anything fails to negotiate successfully you
can ask the manufacturer to fix it. Second best is to hard-set both ends to
100/half, also an industry standard. Never hard-set to 100/full, as that is
not an industry standard, and some devices will still fall back to 100/half
spontaneously.

Ohh, I don't think there's any consensus. But I agree with Andrew, AUTO
is the way to go.
