We have a mixed environment of Netware 6.x servers and Windows 2000
servers. The Win2k servers are used for database requirements. While
our connections and access to Netware drives is relatively quick, we have
noticed that our drive mappings to the Win2k servers are still slow. My
research has led me to believe this is due to the multiple locator
services that must run in order to find the Windows server/drive. Is it
possible to set up entries for the Win2k servers in my Netware DNS to
speed up the locating services? And if so, what would be the proper
configuration?

well - it depends on if the servers being sought by domain name - in
which case, yes, adding DNS entries for them will make things go faster.
For example, at my last place of employment, our SQL server was named
Accounting. The accounting app that connected via TCPIP would try to do
a DNS lookup for that name before falling back on other methods, so once
I added Accounting as an entry, things went much faster.

Joe,
Thanks for the info. It sounds like I might have a similar situation.
Where and what kind of DNS entry should I add for the Microsoft servers?
Currently, I have an 'IN-ADDR.ARPA' zone with a record for my Netware
server located at 192.168.0.120, an 'agworkers.com' for my corporate net
that contains records for both my Netware server and our externally
hosted website and a 'rootserverinfo' zone that I believe is loaded by
default when installing DNS. Where do I put the information for my
AWMDS01 server (Win2K) located at 192.168.0.191? Do I create a new zone
or does it fall under the one of the existing zones? Help, please...

Thanks in advance,

-Steve Sigler

well - in sys:\etc\resolv.cfg, you should have a domain - put it under
the same domain that is listed in DNS and it should do the trick :)
