Hello,

I have 2K DNS experience and i've been handed a NW6.0 DNS to manage..

In 2000, I can highlight my zone and click on new-domain, to add a
subdomain..

how do I do this in NW?

Do I need to create a zone? Example:

i have abc.com as primary

i want to have "A" records under "external.abc.com" to resolve
"test.external.abc.com"

so I need to create a zone for "external.abc.com"?

Yes, exactly. For the purposes of this discussion, Zone = Domain.

well i did this and it worked, i clicked on our main zone "abc.com" and
added a RR such as "

host = www.eb
domain = abc.com

fqdn = www.eb.abc.com

nslookup works...or should I create a zone for "eb.abc.com" and put in a RR
of www in that zone?

That would be a more traditional approach, and it allows for separation
of the records in abc.com and ex.abc.com, which might make things
easier to manage. Also, with separate zones you have the flexibility
of having different DHS servers responsible for each.
