Seems like I am getting multiple entries through the use of dynamic
dns. When i look at the resource record list i have multiple entries of
the same pc except the hostname will have a macaddress next to it.For
instance, I have a PC named ghostdrive, when it gets a new ipaddress
through dhcp it creates another entry called ghostdrive0050da136a5b,
you cannot ping ghostdrive because now it has no ip address.if you check
it by doing an nslookup then set q=ptr then ipaddress of ghostdrive, the
hostname comes back with ghostdrive0050da136a5b. This is bad because we
have printers that we have hooked up through dhcp and some apps that use
that printer such as as400 see it as the original hostname not the 'mac
appended' one.Any one found a cure for this? I am using sp3,my named is
5.10.09 and DHCPSRVR is 3.12.06
I was wondering if there is a set command that may reset or clear this
out although i doubt it.

So you are using Dynamic DHCP with Auto Hostname Generation? If so,
try using Dynamic Bootp and DHCP or just Dynamic DHCP.

Printers should ALWAYS be given static addresses. You can still use
DHCP to hand them out -- just create IP addresses as Manual assignments
for them.

Brad I dont have Auto Hostname Generation turned on just Dynamic DHCP.For
the DNS update option I have always update,I dont think turning that off
would benefit me much. The one thing I noticed was that i have Dynamic
Bootp and DHCP turned on for all the other subnets and seem to not have
issues so I am going to make thae change on the subnet I am having issues
with.

Interesting... I believe both should work fine, but give it a try and
let us know if it helps.
