I purchased three Dell Optiplex GX270s with Windows XP Pro. We have a
Netware 6.0 server. I installed Client 4.90 on first machine and after 4
hours it found the server. The other two machines will not connect to the
server, I get "the tree or server could not be found" error. I downloaded
the sp1a and it hasn't helped. I formatted, re-installed Windows XP and
still no connection. The workstations can see the others on the Microsoft
network. Any ideas?

Try disabling NMAS (uncheck NMAS Authentication on the Advanced Login
page in the client properties).

Check your SLP configuration. Also try adding the name of your eDirectory
to your DNS. You can check if name resolving is the problem by filling in
the ip address of your master server in the tree name field. If login is
then possible, SLP needs to be configured.

We had slightly different issues with the same model Optiplex.
With ours, we were able to connect initially to Novell servers, but all the
new Optiplexes kept dropping Novell connections every 30 minutes or so, but
would maintain all Microsoft server connections. It turned out to be
something flaky with all the network adapters on the Optiplexes. For some
reason they would keep timing out. We ended up having to modify settings
(ANY settings) on the network adapters, apply settings (reboot), wait and
then reset back to defaults. For some reason...after 2 or 3 times doing
this, they are all running perfctly now. In the end NO network adapter
settings were altered from default values...

I had the same problem with Windows XP Pro and Windows 2000 with Client 4.9
SP1. After I disabled NMAS I haven't had anymore problems.

FYI, I'm having the same issue with Compaq/HP laptops and with a Dell
Laptop. Boot up, get client32 login and try...unable to login - cannot
find tree.

I reconfigured SLP and sometimes the client gets the SLP info and sometimes
not.

I am going to try disabling the NMAS and check...Thanks for that. I was
just about to post the question myself.
