We login to the worstation only (no eDir login, but the NIC is physically
connected to the network). The PC boots up ok, and all file operations on
the local drives run smoothly (no noticable delays).
As soon as we start our PCs or notebooks with the network cable disconnected
then all file / explorer operations will see a ca. 10 second delay.
There are no pending mappings to the network (as far as we can see).
Does anybody know why?
Config:
Windows XP SP1
Client 4.83SP2 / 4.9SP1
ZEN Agent 4.01 / Patch 2b / Patch 3u
The problem does not seem to be version specific.
Name Resolution Timeout in the client's advanced setting is the first that
comes to mind.
How about trimming back some of the services as XP can be a hog?...
Windows XP Home and Professional Service Configurations
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
IP, IPX or both bound to the client? What name resolvers (ie. protocol
components) are active in the client properties?
Security software like anti-virus getting in the way?
Task Manager showing anything pegging out?
Event Viewer logs showing anything unusual?
Does disabling simple file sharing help any?...
Control Panel, Folder Options, View Tab, Last ckeckbox in the list
Search this forum for tweaks and performance settings for the client.
Plenty out here.
