Help!

I requested NW6x server licenses and Novell emailed the
electronic files. OK. Installed on server, but are listed
as MW6.0 server. I'm running 6.5. Is there a place to get
a valid 6.5 serve license. Every link I follow runs back
to the same license request page which returns me a 6.0
license. Even though the license is installed via nwadmin
and shows up in the TREE, typing version at the server prompt
still returns "Novell Netware 6 server 650 license not acquired"
What is it looking for and where?

Thanks
Brad

Brad,

does this qiote from the NW 6.5 docs help?

During the NetWare server installation, you install a server license.
Each server in the tree should have a server license associated with
it. The server licenses should be installed at or above the eDirectory
container where the Server object resides. One server license can
license up to 1,000 NetWare 6.5 servers in the same container or
subcontainers. The same server license can be installed multiple times
in the same eDirectory tree, but only once in a container.

To add to what DOnald said:

Assuming you do not have a MLA/SLA license:

Servers and users look up the tree for a license, NOT across OUs.

The server license can be placed in the same container as the server.

When a slow WAN link is not I put the User licenses in teh O.

Tim, Don,

Thanks for the help. I know where in the tree the license
resides, I'm just trying to request new server licences
from Novell and the only page I get directed to is for NW6.0
servers. is there a specific license type for 6.5 servers or
does it just recognize the license for any 6.x version?

I appreciate the help!
Brad

NW 6.0 and NW 6.5 licenses are different, and are not interchangeable.
You only need one server license in NW 6.5, so there is no way, and no
need, to request additional servcer licenses from Novell. You can
have several servers (up to 1,000) using the same license in a
container (just don't assign the license to any server), and you can
install the same 6.5 server license in multiple containers in a tree.

Donald,

Thanks for the info. So now I know that there is a
difference between 6.0 & 6.5 server licenses, where
do I request a 6.5 license? The links I've followed
previously have all directed me to 6.0 licenses!
Apparently the server license I used during install
was a 6.0 license. I don't have any 6.5 licenses available.
Is there a 6.5 license file somewhere on the install CD other
than a demo?

Thanks again
Brad

If you purchased NW 6.5, and Novell sent you a 6.0 server license,
then you need to contact Novell directly. If you have installed an
evaluation copy of NW 6.5, the server license is in
NW65OS\License\Demo (*.nfk and *.nfl), and the user license is in
NW65OS\License\Demo\User.
