You mean into their homedirectories on Linux or into what directories exactly?

That should work. Do you use LUM? Because I'm not sure how it will work with LUM enabled users.

OTOH: Do these users have a Novell client? I have one internal webserver and I let my users copy stuff via Windows Explorer to an NCP share.
