Have a server with an external 1TB USB disk attached.
As long as the server was running with older OES release all was fine.

Since I have migrated to OES2 with current SP and SLES10SP3 I can no
longer boot the server, if the USB disk is configured in /etc/fstab.

OES always give some errors that it cannot find the disk to fsck it an
brings me to a maintenance-prompt.

It seems that the USB drivers will be loaded too late in the boot order.

Booting the server without the USB disk in fstab and than configure it
using yast to be mounted anywhere all is working fine (until next boot).

Also I can see on the boot screen that the usb drivers will be activated
after fsck has run on the other drivers.

I see this problem as well.

I had at one time twin drives that would mount to two separate volumes
-- did not interfere with boot.

Previously the twin USB drives would mount in sequence -- the second
replacing the first.

Then I did an update and had the problem you describe.

I commented out the FSTAB entry to get the system to boot. But then the
drive did not mount. I guess I have to restore the entry, turn the drive
on -- then I think it will see it.

However I have to bring the server up to date - then install SP3.

I had some trouble getting the service through on time -- maybe that
will be resolved today or tomorrow.

Novewll seems to have a problem in this area -- but maybe it is the Kernel.

... in a few days I might know more.
