I have a Lenovo W500 with Windows 7 Professional installed 64 bit and
am able to log into our Novell 6.5 SP8 eDir 88 SP5 environment with no
problem with Novell Client (4.91 SP4). I even have a 32 bit PC at home
with BorderManager 3.9 VPN and Novell Client (4.91 SP4) and am to log
in to our network for telecommunting.

Try running the login exe with the "Run As Adiministrator" option
instead of just double clicking on it. I've had some issues with
applications that way and haven't figured out why. My firewall is off.

Some additional thoughts. Do you have SLP configured on the client?
How about LDAP Contextless Login? We have both configured on all our
client installations. Are you using the IP or Name of the server in
the "Server:" field? How about the Host file, do you have your servers
IPs and Names listed in the file?

Netware 4.11 and prior require IPX to connect, which MS removed from Vista
and above......
