Hi guys,

I have tried many times now to install the "new" Novell Client 2.0 SP1
for OpenSuse 11 on my OpenSuse 11-32bit.
I get an error when the system is trying to initialize the novfs module
as,

"The novfs kernel loadable module is not installed correctly"

In the boot.log the following is written,

Starting novell novfs daemon...
/etc/init.d/novfsd: line 87: cd: /opt/novell/ncl/src/novfs: No such
file or directory
/etc/init.d/novfsd: line 88: ./mk_novfs: No such file or directory
FATAL: Error inserting novfs
(/lib/modules/2.6.25.16-0.1-pae/kernel/fs/novfs/novfs.ko): Unknown
symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
/etc/init.d/novfsd: line 95: cd: /opt/novell/ncl/src/novfs: No such
file or directory
/etc/init.d/novfsd: line 96: ./mk_novfs: No such file or directory

What to do? I'm a bit desperat... A handfull of OES2, XEN and Netware
6.5 servers to administrate and at the moment - due to the novfs problem
- forced to use a Windows XP workstation :-(

Regards

Michael Morgen

I believe that client is only for openSUSE 10.2.

You could always use ncpfs to access your NetWare servers.

I do know that answer is incorrect. The version he is talking about is the
current beta version which is for Opensuse 11.

Mimo
Try to reinstall over the top with a force.

Oops, you're right, I forgot the new beta client is available for
openSUSE 10.3 & openSUSE 11. Sorry.

I have tried that... It didn't work either.

BUT a “funny” thing has occurred since yesterday. After an automatic
update from OpenSuse the novfs is now working – And I have not
reinstalled the client?!? I have another problem while logging in to the
network, the login script stops, but I think that might has something to
do with the “Windows adapted” login script.
Thanx for your time and answers

You have to run the client with a native opensuse 11.0 installation
(kernel 2.6.25.5-1.1). all newer kernel versions will cause this
problem. at least it worked for me by new installation, disabling the
"update" repository and using the addon-product feature of yast.
But be warned: you wont receive any security updates with the
repository diabled!!!
with best regards,
andy
