Cutting long story short... am charged with following an internal
document at a clients' site to configure a server for use with Oracle.

There are a lit of packages that need installing if not installed... The
system is SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (x86_64). I am unable to find
the packages as stipluated in the document available on the web

gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-671.1
sysstat-5.0.1-35.4

but have found the SUSE 10 ISOs for download. So - having downloaded the
SUSE 10 ISOs I am able to extract the following packages

gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-701.x86_64.rpm
sysstat-6.0.2-10.x86_64.rpm

ie different versions. Not a problem generally i figure so I try to
install them. However...

# rpm -i gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-701.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libIIOP.so.0()(64bit) is needed by gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-701
libORBit.so.0()(64bit) is needed by gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-701
libORBitCosNaming.so.0()(64bit) is needed by gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-
701
libORBitutil.so.0()(64bit) is needed by gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-701
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4)(64bit) is needed by gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-701
libdb.so.2()(64bit) is needed by gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-701
libdb.so.2(GLIBC_2.0)(64bit) is needed by gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-701
libresmgr.so.1()(64bit) is needed by gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-701

... and I haven't a clue where to find the rpm that includes these ie
what the rpm would be called

Similarly

# rpm -i sysstat-6.0.2-10.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
gnuplot is needed by sysstat-6.0.2-10

So I grab gnuplot off the SUSE 10 ISOs as well... and attempt to install
that

# rpm -i gnuplot-4.0.0-16.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libXaw.so.8()(64bit) is needed by gnuplot-4.0.0-16
libgd.so.2()(64bit) is needed by gnuplot-4.0.0-16
libplot.so.2()(64bit) is needed by gnuplot-4.0.0-16
libreadline.so.5()(64bit) is needed by gnuplot-4.0.0-16

and similarly I haven't a clue where to get the above/which rpm they
would be in. (I've googled but nothing obvious leaps out at me).

I am also a bit confused as if I search for (say) libXaw libraries I DO
find plenty of other libXaw libraries - just not the one I allegedly need!

# find / -name libXaw\*
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw3d.so.6.1
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw3d.so.7.0
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw.so.6.1
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw.so.7.0
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw.so.6
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw.so.7
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw3d.so
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw3d.so.6
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw3d.so.7
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw3d.a
/usr/X11R6/lib64/libXaw3d.so.6.1
/usr/X11R6/lib64/libXaw3d.so.7.0
/usr/X11R6/lib64/libXaw.so.6.1
/usr/X11R6/lib64/libXaw.so.7.0
/usr/X11R6/lib64/libXaw.so.6
/usr/X11R6/lib64/libXaw.so.7
/usr/X11R6/lib64/libXaw3d.so
/usr/X11R6/lib64/libXaw3d.so.6
/usr/X11R6/lib64/libXaw3d.so.7
/usr/X11R6/lib64/libXaw3d.a

so... any help greatfully accepted. The original author of the document
I am working from is not available and as ever these things are to be
done "yesterday". I feel somewhat stuffed by this now... :-(

cheers for any help

Ian

Both are included on the SLES9 installation media (CORE9 CD2).

Don't. SLES9 and SLES10 are based on different code bases; SLES10 packages
are not installable on SLES9 in general. On SLES9, use packages built for
the 9 code base.
