I have an install of SLED10 on a machine connected to a KVM, in order to
work with the Novell when I have a break. It will boot fine and operate
correctly until I switch away from the Novell machine. When I switch back,
the mouse no longer functions properly. The slightest movement causes the
pointer to race all over the screen, and various right & left click events
are generated. I can use the keyboard to get out and reboot. The monitor
works with no problems. The machine itself works fine with the mouse and
switch when I boot it into Windows; I can switch back & forth with no problems.

Any settings I need to check?

Thanks

Ahh, yes there's been several posts in these forums on the same topic.
There are some KVM switch models that don't work very well with Linux.

There are three things you can try;

1) If using a USB Mouse, replace it with a PS/2 one if possible.

2) Try adding the following boot parameter, psmouse.proto=bare to the
/boot/grub/menu.lst file.

3) If neither of the above helps. Try disconnecting the mouse from the
switch and plug it back in again while in Linux. That way you should at
least not having to restart Linux everytime.

Thanks for the advice. Changing the mouse is not practical at this time;
it is currently a PS/2 type KVM switch anyway. I added the suggested line
to the file; it did not help. It works to unplug the mouse, and plug it
back in; apparantly forces a reload of the settings. This will be fine for
now, as I work with the system.

Is this a mouse with a ps2-usb converter by any chance?
