It was set up originally on Netware 3.12 with DOS clients, and has been
ported to Netware 4.11 with Windows 98 clients.
The Netware 4.11 server is on the way out (old age) and we have it running
on a Netware 5.1 server with Pervasive 2000. We are getting performance
issues with Windows 98 clients but performance is excellent with Windows XP
clients except for one very significant problem, printing.
The application uses captured printers and I can find no way that works to
do this in Windows XP, even with the new client 4.91 SP 3.
When I print in the application, I get an error (error 8832h in
VLM_PrintRedirCancel), which, of course, is not found in the knowledgebase.
I tried the Microsoft-suggested net use command, and, once I figured out
the syntax errors in their instructions, I captured the printer but it
still did not work.
The printer in question is on a Windows 98 machine.
All mapping is done apparently with a Netware 3.12 script which I can't
access to change or correct or add mapped printers (no Netware 3.12 on the
system and I have no way of using syscon to access the bindery object).
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Running 4.91.1.20050819 (SP1) on XP pro (NW 4.2).
When you right click the red N in the tool tray, do you see Capture
printer port?
We use novell capture.exe in loginscript on Windows XP machines..
captures queues to lpt ports, no problem.

Just shared printer or through Netware queue?

I was considering doing this but was hoping there was a less disruptive
method (I have to work there during production hours)
Thanks for the input
Martin
?? If the script was created with syscon, then it is in a file called
net$log.dat that you can edit with a text editor. Are you still using bindery
logins??

The system login script is simply a text file called NET$LOG.DAT found in
SYS:PUBLIC ...

As VLM is no longer a supported product ...
How do you get CAPTURE to work in the logon script with the current client?
The problem I am running into is that the customized btrieve application
seems to have a built-in endcap so you have to run a batch program to
recapture for each print job.
I have to get the source code for the app and see how to modify the setup.
Martin
Yep, that should do the trick. # for external programs.
