Oh, yeah....

Unloading and reloading NAMED doesn't seem to make any difference...

Sometimes does it take a while for changes to be picked up. Did you try
reloading NAMED?

Also, what exactly is not working? You entered an A‑record and then
tried pinging it?

Novell has a new enhancement request system,
or what is now known as the requirement portal.
If customers would like to give input in the upcoming
releases of Novell products then they should go to
http://www.novell.com/rms

And does the same thing happen if you do a manual PING for that
address? What about NSLOOKUP address ?

Hello, Anders...

Sorry it took so long to respond back.

Here's what is happening:

1. I get our DHCP server to assign the DNS server for our workstations to a
NetWare DNS server.
2. I set an A record to a intranet site maintained by the agency that
provides our Internet access.
3. When I ping from that server, the name resolves to the IP address just
fine.
4. When I print from a workstation with that server as its DNS server, I get
a message "Ping request could not find host xxx.yyy.zzz. Please check the
name and try again.

Any ideas?

So you clearly have a problem there. Can you do an NSLOOKUP for *any*
domain?

When I manually ping the server from the workstation, everything times out.
I expect that because the man in charge of the website told me that it would
not respond to pings.

When I do a nslookup for the full domain name. the server that is my DNS
server says

*** <DNS server> can't find <my requested domain>: Non-existent domain

Any ideas...?
