I'm currently using Novell Login v4.83 sp1 and it's giving me the error
when i logon to windows...A tree or server cannot be found. Choose a
different tree or server.

I'm typing in my password and I keep getting this error. I'm unable to
log into windows and I can't even get onto my computer. Someone please
help me :)

JRomach8,

Can you verify that either the tree or server you have configured in the client
are valid and there is nothing wrong with your network connection?

Is there a Workstation only check-box available on the GINA that you can check
and login with a local Windows account?

Any additional components of the Novell Client installed (ie. ZFD agents like
Workstation Manager, NMAS, NetIdentity, etc.)?
Is the client installed IP, IPX or both?

4.83 SP1 is a little dated so I would recommend at least SP3 going forward.
You can then get both SP3 and Update A that applies to it below and overlay them
on top of the full 4.83 install...

This URL has a link to download the full 4.83 SP2 client...

Novell Client 4.83 SP 2

As client 4.83 will run out of support at the end of this year unless you have
some legacy concerns, you might consider using 4.90 SP2 or try testing the 4.91
beta release.

No, It cannot verify the tree or server. I think the problem might be
that I was trying to disable Novell and in doing that I changed a
configuration. Now when I log-in to windows it has a box I can check
that says--suppress single on. There is no longer an advanced tab or
does it say a worksation only checkbox.

Once i type in my password it keeps giving the error--cannot verify tree
or server and I cant get onto my computer. Is there any way I can bypass
this so i can get back into windows and re-configure the settings the way
they were or just get into windows bypassing this. Thanks for your help!

There is no advance area when I get the log-in screen. There is only a
username field, password field and a box that i can check off that says
suppress log-in. There are no other tabs or options. I'm just trying to
get on my computer and bypass this thing. I cant even log-in. I keep
getting that same error with the tree or server cannot be found. Thanks

Can you boot into safe-mode, login windows and verify the client setting
against another computer that you can at least login to windows on?

Do you have a windows only check box?

I'm able to boot into safe mode but I cannot make any changes to Novell
because it gives an error that it did not load at startup. Is there
anything I can do once I get into safe mode to make changes to novell.
What can I do in safe mode or something I can do through Windows XP? or
is there any other thing i can do to change the preferences of Novell
when it starts up.

jrom...@aol.com,

Boot into safe mode then start regedit.exe. Goto:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon

Change the GinaDLL value from NWGINA.DLL to MSGina.DLL, then reboot.

Youll get the standard Windows Login prompt, login, remove the Novell
client, reboot, reinstall it.

I had the same problems. All was fixed by:

Installing 4.90SP2
Installing the 490 Post SP2 C Update
Setting Bad Address Cache Timeout to 0 (zero)
Setting Bad Server Name Cache Enabled = Off.

This made ALL the bad error messages go away.
