If you can find the old, unspported tape emulator... Google for tapemu

Novell has a new enhancement request system,
or what is now known as the requirement portal.
If customers would like to give input in the upcoming
releases of Novell products then they should go to

If the server name is not critical to your testing, use the Server
consolidation utility.

Temporarily put your virtual server in your production tree with whatever
name you want and copy all the data you wish to have with SCMT.

Now make a R/W replica of the DS partition on the test server.

Next, isolate the test server from the production network.

On the production server, use dsrepair -a to remove the test server's
replicas from the production tree.
After that, use C1 to delete all the test server-related objects in the
production tree

In the test network, promote the test server to master partition and remove
the production entities from the test network in the same fashion as above.

You will also need to recreate your certificate server, certs, SAS objects,
etc.., in the test network.
Lastly, if needed, you'll need to make appropriate changes in any login
scripts

This will add steps but it will eliminate the need to deal with data and
eDir backup and restore issues.

For the DSREPAIR -A process, follow this TID

TID 10059584
Unable to delete server object from NDS Manager after server has crashed.

If the server name *is* critical, you can rename to test server using the
following TID:

TID 10080951
How to rename a NetWare 6.x server
