They are stored in NDS, is this server part of a tree with more servers?

Novell has a new enhancement request system,
or what is now known as the requirement portal.
If customers would like to give input in the upcoming
releases of Novell products then they should go to
http://www.novell.com/rms

They are stored as license objects.

Not officially no, they are also protected by an IRF, but that can be
removed, then just use your regular backup utility.

Note that from the technical point of view, Novell has dropped the limited
licenses. Since NetWare 6.5 SP7, the NetWare installation CDs contain an
unlimited and non time bombed license in the LICENSE directory and Novell
no longer distributes separate license files to customers. Note that this
does not give you the rights to use an unlimited number of users. It just
means that Novell has gone to paper licenses. E.g. licenses are no longer
technically enforced but you have to be OK in case Novell deicides to
audit your license usage one day.
