Our MAIL server (NW6.5, GW8) is due a hardware upgrade. The entire server
box will be replaced, but obviously all the data and applications etc are to
be "as was".
From memory, there used to be some tools shipped on the NW server CD's that
gave you scenarios, including hardware replacement, and they used to pretty
much do everything for you?
Apologies for asking what will be seen as a simple question, but it's not
something I've done for 4 years or so, and it is kind of critical that I get
it right first time.
Many Thanks for any tips

One question - how essential is it to patch the source server first? I know
it's recommended, but in my case, would it be a problem if I didn't? The
reason for the question is simple - I cannot easily schedule in any
downtime. I could patch the server when I plan the actual upgrade, but it
wouldn't wouldn't be much fun to have to roll back a failed SP (worst case)
on the day.
The source server is
"Novell Open Enterprise Server, NetWare 6.5
Support Pack Revision 07
Server Version 5.70.07 September 18, 2007
Novell eDirectory Version 8.7.3.9 SMP
NDS Version 10553.73 9 October 2006"
But the destination would be SP8 (from overlay CD)
Do you think I could go ahead and build the new server and not worry too
much about the SP7 on the source upsetting things?
Cheers,
Alan
