1. BackupExec for Netware 9.2 will NOT recognize the tapedrive
so, no backup is possible that route.

2. Nwtape do show the tapedevice as a tapedevice,
but, simply refuses to write anything to the tape, so, that's another
shut door.

On the system console, on each test with sbcon it states
deactivated due to media dismount.

Hi.

Did you check the drive on a differen machine / different OS?

I'm not familiar with BackupExec at all, I prefer BABNW11.1 as "budget" Backup
solution:

Is there some "BE device update" you need to install?

Are you at NW6.5sp8? Does BE use it's on tape.cdm? Then have a look at
http://wiki.novell.com/index.php/Nw65sp8, section "Tape Drive Problems"

Yes,, Tapedrive works ok with other os,
I did know in advance that LTO4 wasn't supported under BackExec NW
and BackupExec isn't updated anymore....

And,, no,, Backupexec doesn't like nwtape at all.

So,, LTO4 on NW seems difficult since even SBCON refuses to use it
even with the update nwtape.cdm

Hi.

So, in case you are at NW65sp8: Did you hide/delete NWTAPE.CDM?

>So, LTO4 on NW seems difficult

Well, *IIRC* at least one customer has LTO4 (Tandberg) running smoothly with AS11.1
SP3, so I doubt, that this is a general issue of NetWare.

What ServicePack is your Netware Server, pls?

Yes,, nwtape really "hidden",, renamed,,,
so,, that take's care of BE's difficulty with that, but it seems that
BE wont recoqnize LTO4 due to BE's old / not updated status,

As of right now, I could really go for testing anything,
arcserve, brightstor ( aren't they the same..?) which works with NW.

Other solution would be to move over to W2k based backup and use NW as
agent. But, preferably I'd go for a backup which runs ON NW.....

Though it seems difficult to find current DLd's /trials of
BackupSoftware for Netware. All the current versions support NW as a
agent, not as the backupserver......or maybe it's just me that's not
finding them....

So my favourite advice to test would be BABNW11.1+SP3

Excplicitely ask CA for T514059 (Client specific - revert T50A018)

Have fun!

to download 11.1 anywere......,,discountinued product maybe...

Otherwise I'd happily test it...

It's still available in the channel for resale, at least in Germany.

Propably you should get a trial CD in the states within 1-2 days like here.

Late to this party, but you might want to look at Yosemite Backup, recently
purchased by Barracuda Networks and renamed to BarracudaWare.
The product has been through several iterations/names over the years, but it
works and it supports most every backup device out there.
They list support of LTO-4 in SAS and SCSI flavors and they support NetWare
6.x.
They don't specifically state whether or not they support the combination of
the two, so you'll need to contact them.
