Hello list.

For several years we use a HP ProLiant ML350 G3 machine with NW6.5.7. Now
its time to extend the Raidsystem. What's here the best method? Using the
HP-Cdroms or the CPQONLIN.NLM. For the moment the server has four disks as
RAID5 (3 + 1 Hotspare).
We want add two additional disks.
What is say about the risk to lose any data on the server?
We never extend a Raid before, so I don't have any experiences here.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Best regards.

This is what I always do:
1. Make sure I have backups
2. Add the disks, one at a time
3. Use CPQONLIN to assign to array
4. Let the controller stripe out the data
5. Use CPQONLIN to create a new "disk" on the new free space
6. Use NSSMU to create a new volume or assign new space to exiting.

I have never had a RAID failure extending this way on HP/Compaq.

So I wait for a disaster recovery option for my backup program and tahn we
wil start with the new disks.

the best solution is to resize RAID partition rather than recreate the entire RAID array. In fact, there ware two ways to solve low disk space on RAID partition, like this tutorial: http://www.partition-magic.org/hardware-raid/resize-raid-partition.html
