You need to configure TCPIP on the server:

Novell has a new enhancement request system,
or what is now known as the requirement portal.
If customers would like to give input in the upcoming
releases of Novell products then they should go to

Did you put the server's IP address for the Tree Name field or did you put
in the actual tree name?

You should take out that "zero" in the 03 -- sometimes that causes issues.

I think that there seems to be something wrong with your PC. The
Caps-key is stuck ;)

Do what Peter suggests, ie leave the tree name blank and enter the
actual server IP in the server field when logging in.

I'd leave the Server name field blank and put the IP address in the Tree
Name field instead.

But that will not work. Either leave the tree field blank or put in an
IP address

No, that will not work. The tree field needs to be blank or to have a
valid IP address

Ah.. This is the first mention of a router :) Just because you can ping,
does not mean that other things will work. Ping is an entirely different
protocol (ICMP) than UDP/TCP.

Try connecting directly to the server, no router in between. Disable all
personal firewalls on the PC. Enter the server IP in the server and tree
fields.

And server and workstation have been given IP addresses on the same
subnet?
