NOt enough info. *Usually*, this error is simply a follow-up error of
the SYS: volume not mounting, but it can have multiple reasons.

HELP!!!

I have a NW 5.0 server which was working flawlessly. I decided to work
on my backups, so I installed Backup Exec for Netware V. 8.5. Tried to
start the server up this morning and got the following error: "NICI CCS
FATAL - Initialization err. Controlled Cryptophaphy Services are not
available"

OK, we need our server back to get everyone back to work. How do I
resolve this?

Thanks
Alan

Well, here's what I get. The screens "fly by" very quickly, so its
difficult to see if there are any error messages displayed as things
load. Stages 0 - 3 appear to have no problem.

Startup.nlm - no problem

At stage 4 I get an error loading module PML0DR.NLM
NICI CCS fatal initialization error
Controlled Cryptography Services are not available. Loading module
POLIMGR.NLM

I typed autoexec and received error message ??? Unknown command ???

At stage 5 I get an error loading module HWDETECT.NLM,
Loader cannot find public symbol: _U8M from module HWDETECT.NLM

At this point I still cannot get into the server.

Thanks.

I believe I found the answer, for anyone else who may have this problem
in the future, the answer is located at Symantec Support at this
address: 'After installing VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 8.5 for NetWare on
a NetWare 5.1 server and rebooting it, an error is displayed on the
system console regarding NICI.'
Document ID: 243257

After installing VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 8.5 for NetWare on a NetWare
5.1 server and rebooting it, an error is displayed on the system console
regarding NICI.

Exact Error Message
Error:

NICI CCS: Fatal - Initialization error.
Controlled Crytography Services are not available

The solution:

To resolve this error, follow the instructions below:

* Shut down the NetWare operating system and exit to DOS by typing
DOWN + <Enter> at the system console prompt.
* Once the server is at the DOS prompt, rename
C:\NWSERVER\FILESYS.NLM by typing this command:

REN C:\NWSERVER\FILESYS.NLM *.BAD.

* Start the NetWare operating system by executing SERVER at the DOS
prompt
* The NetWare operating system will load correctly without any NICI
CCS Fatal Initialization Errors.

Regards,
Alan
