Our DS is 8.6.2 or higher.
I would like to do away with the 4.83 Novell Client on the
Workstations and have the following questions:
Q1. Can the workstations do without the standard 4.83 client
Q2. What is the Middle Tier Server used for
Thanks
Steve
Here is how I understand it.
The ZenWorks for Desktops 4 client is distinct from the Novell
(NetWare/NDS?) client. However, it still needs to talk to eDirectory
to get policies, software, etc. It can do this in 2 ways;
- sitting on top of the Novell client, talking directly to NDS
- talking to NDS via the middle tier server - it talks XML over HTTP,
the middle tier server translates this into NDS, and the replies go
back in the same path.
Hence, technically they can do without the Novell client. However, we
are sticking with it because we still have a big investment in Novell
technology - NetWare, GroupWise, etc, so it makes sense for us to
retain the client because everything can take advantage of it to run
more efficiently.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Anwar
