can the server you are running iManager from ping that pre-mig server ?

Hmm...NRM should work I'd.

Can you use the IP address of the server instead of a treename within
the Novell client and then authenticate ? If so, its a SLP problem I'd
say which can be solved by configuring SLP properly on this server.

Its more of a troubleshooting step. You can also use an IP address in
the tree field in iManager and see if that works.
