I want to change the simple password or universal passwords of users that
use Macintosh. I cannot set Simple passwords or universal passwords in
imanager. I get two errors when I try setting the passwords. When I go to
nmas, nmas user, then click simple password I get this error.

Unable to read objects from eDirectory
In order to transmit or receive NMAS data, a secure connection via LDAP
is required. Unfortunately, LDAP authentication from the web client to
the web server that hosts iManager could not be completed. The most
likely causes are that the LDAP service is not running on the web server,
or that a secure connection could not be opened to the LDAP service.
Please refer to the JSSE API User's Guide on the iManager installation
CD, and the appendix entitled "Configuring and Using SSL for LDAP" in the
Novell iManager Administration Guide for more information.

When I try to change the Universal password from password, set universal
password, I get this error:

NMAS LDAP Transport Error

Any help would be appreciated. I have tried a number of TIDs and searched
here and on google groups. Nothing seems to help.

NW6.5sp3
iManager 2.5

Thank you

Have you verified that your LDAP server is accepting secure connections?
Also check the iManager setting related to LDAP connections. Login to
your tree and go to the Configure view | iManager Server role |
Configure iManager task. On the Security page verify that "Auto import
tree certificate for secure LDAP" is checked. Go to the Authentication
page and verify that "Use secure LDAP when auto connect" is checked. If
any of these are not checked, check the boxes, Save, then logout and
back in. If you are still having trouble go to,
<TOMCAT_HOME>/webapps/nps/WEB-INF/ and delete the file iMKS, restart
Tomcat and login to eDirectory from iManager. All of this is assuming
that your LDAP server is functioning properly.

I have the same problem even if I followed Jasons guide and deleted iMKS -
nothing helped:

When I go to Passwords > Set Universal Password , select user and click Ok I
get the error
NMAS LDAP Transport Error .

I have no problem while managing Simple Password via NMAS > NMAS Users

But I have LDAP error in this case:

Users > Modify User > Security

LDAP Extensions not Installed
The LDAP Extensions required by this plugin have not been installed on the
target server. Either the version of NMAS is out of date or NMAS was not
installed properly.

We have NW65sp3, eDir 8.8, iManager 2.6 and newest eDir and NMAS modules
installed.

Any help would be appreciated

I have one last thing based upon the fact you are using eDirectory 88 on
NetWare. This might solve your problem.

http://www.novell.com/documentation/imanager26/readme/imanager26_readme.html#by3qyki

The workaround actually solves a host of problems so it is worth a try.

Add the following to the beginning of the c:\nwserver\startup.ncf file,
then restart the server:

env NDSD_TRY_NMASLOGIN_FIRST=true

I found this. It should solve the problem:
http://support.novell.com/techcenter/search/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=10091939html&sliceId=&dialogID=5478671

But I have not tried it yet

That's great. It looked like a hairy fix.
