I recently purchased a Blackberry curve 8330 and I'm trying to get it to
sync with the Groupwise 7.0.3 client. The client is in remote mode. I
don't have a Groupwise e-mail server yet. Only using the client at the
moment. Any suggestions or help?

Have you installed the Blackberry Desktop?

Yes (v4.6). When I try to get it to sync to get BD to sync to Groupwise
it ask me for a username and password (which are required). I don't
have a username and password for just the groupwise client. Any
suggestions?

Let me ask Novell.

Looks like it will only work if your client is connected to a GW backend.

Will Blackberry sync with GW via the Blackberry desktop out of the box
(under the conditions described below). I'm talking about a wired client-end
desktop synch. I've never used a Blackberry before and am thinking of
purchasing one, and this would give it a tick over a WinMob device.

If by "under the conditions described below" you mean the conditions
Matthew already described, then my answer to him still stands.

Which is a big deafening no. :(

My wish list for groupwise.

Blackberry support for the client without the need for a backend system.

Sorry, my posting was ambiguous. My institution is a closed Novell shop with
full GW implementation with all the bells and whistles. I'm purchasing a new
smartphone to replace my trusty Palm Treo 650. GMS has not been implemented,
and Blackberry Enterprise Server may be problematic for me (still sorting
that one out). So, I'm looking at client-end individual wired synching
options. Hence, my question: Will Blackberry sync with GW via the Blackberry
desktop software out of the box?
