I don't have hard and fast numbers, but I've seen at least one of my
clients using it with several hundred simultaneous users in a school
environment on the same server hosting one of the email post offices. I'm
thinking up to 500 simultaneous users will be ok before having to consider
moving to a dedicated platform, and perhaps a lot more.

On the WAN links, are you worried about the WAN bandwidth or the
saturation of the server? I'd think the WAN bandwidth will limit the load
on the server, and your concern is more about how much WAN bandwidth will
be eaten up. GW messenger doesn't create a lot of traffic in my
experience, being mostly text.
